Last August 18 to 20, 2023, Johnny and Hansel Publications (JHP) visited the King City of the South for the Philippine Book Festival hosted by the National Book Development Board and in time for the Kadayawan Festival, the annual festival in Davao City.
The name Kadayawan comes from the friendly Dabawenyo greeting “madayaw” (like in “madayaw na buntag!” or “good morning!”), which means good, valuable, or beautiful. It ia thanksgiving celebration of the Davao tribes for a bountiful harvest. Indeed, it was a bountiful fête of books with other book lovers at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang.
Supporters of local children’s literature flocked JHP’s booth (C11) at Kid Lit and had read the following storybooks:
Authors like Dr. Eugene Y. Evasco, Genaro R. Gojo Cruz, and illustrator Danielle Florendo signed books and talked to fans about their work. Professional kwentista Melanie Abad Martinez also wowed children with her skillful storytelling.
Fired up after this book celebration, JHP continues to publish inspiring stories for Filipino young readers. Without a doubt, these three days were a heartwarming book experience and a win for Filipino literature.:
