Despite the Philippines’ destructive typhoons in late October 2024, the staff of Johnny and Hansel Publications (JHP) pushed through the delivery of educational materials to several schools in remote areas across Luzon and Visayas.

It can be recalled that former Typhoon Kristine caused widespread flooding and landslides in Region 5 of the country on October 22, according to ReliefWeb. Kristine then made landfall in the Isabela province in northern Luzon on October 24.

The tropical storm continued to wreak havoc that impacted multiple regions including Region 2 and Region 4A, where multiple casualties have been reported in the municipality of Talisay in Batangas province.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Leon followed Kristine with its heavy rain and strong winds, causing significant impacts such as the cancellation and delays of flights in different parts of the Philippines by October 30.

These disruptions also affected the logistics of JHP in remote areas. Nevertheless, these weather-related disturbances did not stop the team from ensuring that their educational materials reached their target schools.

The probable takeaway from this recent experience is that notwithstanding these forces of nature during the country’s wet season, JHP continues its vision and mission to provide students with the materials they need—for continued learning and personal growth.
