It is the time of the year again where children’s book and story enthusiasts show their appreciation to some of the country’s most inspiring published materials for kids and even young adults. Stories in this category often portray values and lessons that can be applied in real life.
On September 5, such appreciation was shown after the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) on Facebook announced the winners of the 8th National Children’s Book Awards (NCBA).
One of the entries that won is Papasok na Kami ni Nanay sa Paaralan (My Nanay and I are Going to School), according to the NBDB Facebook post. It was written by Genaro R. Gojo Cruz and illustrated by Jhucel A. del Rosario published by Johnny and Hansel Publications back in 2023.
The story of Papasok na Kami ni Nanay sa Paaralan revolves around a son, who one day started to accompany her mother to a school. The boy later finds out there are no other children in sight in the premises. Instead, it was her mother who is the student in this mysterious school.
The NCBA is a biennial event that recognizes and awards the best books published for children and young adults. During the assessment of the winners of the 8th NCBA, members of the ValACE Children’s Reading Club and Madlang Basa Teens and Adults Club attended the said event, where they served as judges in the Kid’s Choice Award.
