Delivering Knowledge Against All Odds: JHP’s Commitment Amid Typhoons

Despite the Philippines’ destructive typhoons in late October 2024, the dedicated staff of Johnny and Hansel Publications (JHP) persevered to deliver vital educational materials to schools in remote areas across Luzon and Visayas.

Former Typhoon Kristine devastated several provinces when it struck on October 22, bringing widespread flooding and landslides across Region 5, according to ReliefWeb. Just days later, Kristine made landfall in Isabela province, northern Luzon, further compounding the damage.

The storm’s trail of destruction extended to Regions 2 and 4A, with multiple casualties reported in Talisay, Batangas. As communities struggled to recover, another weather system—Typhoon Leon—followed closely, unleashing heavy rains and strong winds by October 30. Its impact rippled nationwide, disrupting flights, delaying transportation, and hindering logistical operations.

For JHP, these back-to-back weather disturbances posed significant challenges in reaching far-flung schools. Yet, the team refused to be deterred. With determination and resilience, they pushed forward to ensure that students—many of whom are in underserved communities—would not be deprived of the learning tools they need.

This recent experience underscores an important lesson: even in the face of nature’s fiercest challenges, JHP remains steadfast in its mission to deliver knowledge, nurture learning, and empower growth.
